Job Description

Scope:The QC Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of materials produced at the North Charleston and Summerville Plants while conducting a broad range of activities related to coated fertilizer production and qualification. The Incumbent will be responsible for following procedures to ensure accuracy of results and document QC laboratory activities. Related activities include performing calibration and regular maintenance of equipment; laboratory supply inventory, troubleshooting laboratory equipment, analyzing materials related to complaints, and supporting the R&D team by analyzing experimental materials.

This Position Reports to:

ICL Specialty Fertilizers Quality Manager

Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Perform analytical and physical testing on incoming raw materials, and finished goods manufactured in the North Charleston and Summerville plants for QC release.

  • Maintain databases documenting test results.

  • Communicate with the quality manager on a daily basis to analyze results, determine fate of materials, and discuss laboratory management.

  • Maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies and place orders when supplies are required.

  • Keep all laboratory apparatuses, sieves and equipment calibrated and in working order. Troubleshooting analytical equipment is an essential part of the position.

  • Manage all QC retain samples and ensure that materials are properly stored and discarded after their expiration date.

  • Work under minimal supervision with a certain degree of latitude and creativity while observing all health and safety precautions applicable to a chemistry laboratory located in a fertilizer manufacturing plant.

  • Other duties as required.

Required Skills

Experience/Skills Required:

  • BS degree in Analytical Chemistry or related field.

  • Experience with analytical instruments and techniques such as atomic absorption spectrophotometer, nitrogen analyzer, and sample preparation for quantitative mineral analysis.

  • Good math and computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Excel is essential, along with good oral and written communications kills.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and specialized instrumentation software applications.

  • The position requires an energetic individual, capable of multitasking and managing work efficiently under pressure.

  • This position entails occasional weekend work.

Required Experience
