Job Description

  • The purpose of this position is the movement of tactical military vehicles and associated material in/around the military stations, contracted locations and points of shipment within the greater Charleston area.

Drivers will also be regularly tasked with the following:

  • Assist in the removal and/or inventory of vehicle tools/spare parts upon receipt and shipment of vehicles. May be required to operate forklift to accomplish this task.

  • Perform basic serviceability inspections and safety checks on the vehicles before/during/after operation, including escort vehicles used for convoys.

  • Remove/load vehicles onto suitable commercial transportation.

  • Record basic vehicle data (Registration Numbers, Hull Numbers, miles driven, etc.) for inventory, integration and shipping purposes.

  • Perform safety inspections and operate forklift to move materials associated with assigned projects, loading commercial carriers with assets for shipment and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Exerts frequent physical energy. Climbs ladders or platforms. Lifts and carries heavy objects.

  • Safely climbing up and down repeatedly in order to enter / exit / operate heavy military tactical vehicles.

  • Must be prepared to work in any weather condition and be flexible as job priorities change frequently.

  • Operate vehicle in a safe and professional manner during convoy operations.

  • Follow prescribed safety rules/guidance to the letter.

  • Perform spotter duties as required to prevent mishaps.

  • Experience, to include: Coordinating and expediting flow of material, parts, and assemblies within or between various buildings in accordance with Facility Manager or Facility Staff Engineer(s) priorities.

  • Reviewing production schedules and conferring with Facilities Staff to determine material requirements.

  • Arranging transfer of materials to meet production schedules; examining material to verify type specified for current project; and computing amount of material needed for specific job orders.

  • Compiling reports of quantity and type of material on hand and coordinating with Facility Staff for the repair and assembly/installation of facilities unique material.



Required Education

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Proof of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class “B” endorsement, at a minimum.

  • Documented minimum health requirements (drivers physical) will be REQUIRED.

  • Presentation of a current copy of the applicants Motor Vehicle Record is REQUIRED.

  • Has prepared and furnished the motor carrier employer with a list of violations of motor vehicle traffic laws and ordinances of which the candidate has been convicted during the preceding 12 months, 49 CFR 391.27
