The incumbent is responsible for planning and managing efficient production activities through the direct supervision of production/maintenance work as assigned, in order to meet delivery, quality, service, safety and cost objectives of the department.
Supervise production and maintenance activities to ensure that products meet or exceed all established quality requirements. Interprets specifications and makes judgment regarding the acceptability of production that is in process. Determines production priorities based on weekly schedules, manages daily assignments.
Manages all department related activities which include selection, training, reviews, discipline and safety for assigned staff. Through effective direction, counselling and training, develop and maintain an effective organization through selection, development, overtime and motivation of all employees. Develop talents necessary to achieve short and long-range objectives.
Provides leadership in assuring employee physical wellbeing and safety by the development, promotion and enforcement of an uncompromising safety attitude in both supervision and production employees and good safety practices measured by a safety record that exceeds and leads the industry. Directs the manufacturing activities of all products including machines, spare parts, buildings & grounds and repair activities to meet customer schedule commitments within quality and cost objectives.
Develop and assign goals and objectives that coincide with the established department goals, holding subordinates accountable for their performance. The incumbent must be a mentor capable of generating enthusiasm from direct reports. The various groups must be encouraged to seek cost-effective design alternatives and processes.
Trouble-shoot and resolve manufacturing operating problems. Arranges for Maintenance and Engineering support as needed.
Understands Lean Manufacturing Principles (Kaizen, 5S, Pilot Projects) and participates, supports and is familiar with Continuous Improvements methodology as it relates to WCM initiatives.
Develop and maintain a high degree of technical expertise for the design of all Saint-Gobain ADFORS products. Have an understanding of the system and operation the product is part of, assuring compatibility. Measurement of success includes the measurement of shipment on-time performance, direct labor productivity, world class quality levels and leading edge product cycle times.
The incumbent works within a framework of established standard practices and procedures, and has limited latitude to deviate from the priorities established by production schedules. She/he may stop the production/maintenance process for cause. Progress and results are reviewed with the Plant Manager.
This position is the first management level supervising semi-skilled personnel, typically on an established shift and within a defined area. The work done by subordinates may be production or maintenance of equipment and facilities. She/he must maintain high morale and a positive attitude, good communication, interpersonal skills and employee development through training and involvement. The incumbent’s role focuses heavily on training and directing the subordinate personnel in their assigned tasks. She/he will identify conditions, which vary from standard and alert others for resolution, and may participate in special operation improvement projects.

BS Degree, Industrial, Business or Mechanical Engineering, Preferred
Three years manufacturing experience, Glass Mat, Papers or Non-Woven industry, Preferred
The incumbent works within a framework of established standard practices and procedures. Maintains the level of latitude to deviate from priorities established by production schedules. This position is the first management level of supervising semi-skilled or skilled personnel. This role focuses heavily on training and directing subordinate personnel in their assigned tasks. When managing off-shifts in other areas, the incumbent will be responsible for assuring coordinated activities. Responsible for the identification of condition which may vary from standard and alerts others for resolution. Key participant in all production improvement projects. Maintains contact with support services such as engineering, maintenance, supplies, purchasing and outside vendors. Safety, quality, service and cost are the major criteria of job performance.
Travel Requirements: 10%
Projects include leadership of lean/six sigma activities and routine maintenance of quality systems and troubleshooting problems, which impede the effective operation of quality functions. He/she will initiate steps to explore, in some detail, the precise nature of the problem and identify possible corrective actions.
The incumbent must possess strong organizational skills, as well as be thorough, deatil-oriented and be able to manage mulitiple priorities.
